For Ian Macdonald photography plays a role in his life akin to reflective biography.

Many of his photographs offer reflections of his passion for what he finds around him. Some of the photographs may even be seen as metaphors celebrating life and the environment.

Since 1968 Ian has photographed consistently across the hinterland of his native Cleveland in the north east of England.

Images from this body of work have been exhibited widely in England and selected prints are held in many public and private art collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Danish Royal Library, The Navigation Foundation, Boston Ma, USA and Southampton City Art Gallery.
